My Purpose

Watched an excellent TEDx talk yesterday that pretty much summed up my views on politics. Be Involved. Help Others Get Involved. Be Courteous.

Tom Vellenga, President of Heartland Democracy, spoke at the TEDx1000Lakes event about We, as in We, the People.

Essentially what I got from the talk was:
1. Civic involvement is pathetically low.
2. Civic involvement increases virtually all indicators of a healthy society (jobs, healthcare, satisfaction, etc).

And to increase civic involvement:
1. Don't lecture.
2. Identify your own values and issues of importance, and encourage others to do the same.
3. "Lift the veil from the system." We are all capable of understanding how things work, and how we can become involved.

I'll be sharing items that grab my attention, what they mean to you, encourage you to decide what they mean to you, suggest items of action, and hopefully have an enlightening, encouraging, respectful conversation about what it means to be part of We.
